Exploring Helen

Updated: Apr 26

If you're looking for an adventure in the North Georgia Mountains, exploring Helen is the perfect destination.

Exploring Helen, tubing, ziplining, outdoor activity

Tubing

In the warmer months, typically from May to September, you can enjoy a leisurely day floating down the river with outfitters such as Helen Tubing & Waterpark and Cool River Tubing, who provide drop-off and pick-up services.

Ziplining

Ziplining is another popular activity that you can enjoy through providers like Nacoochee Adventures and American Adventure Park at Unicoi State Park. These courses offer thrilling rides through the lush surrounding forest.

Anna Ruby Falls

Take in the stunning beauty of Anna Ruby Falls, a unique double waterfall created just before two creeks converge. Among the numerous waterfalls near Helen, Anna Ruby Falls is one of the most easily accessible, thanks to a paved trail. The falls are named in honor of Anna Ruby Nichols and consist of two distinct waterfalls.

Downtown Helen

Take a leisurely walk through downtown Helen, where you'll find charming Bavarian-style buildings housing a variety of shops and restaurants. Some notable spots include The Glassblowing Shop, offering unique hand-blown glass gifts and art designs, and Hofer's of Helen, where you can savor meals in an authentic Bavarian dining room and grab delectable bakery treats to-go.

Georgia Mountain Coaster

One of the most exhilarating attractions in Helen is the Georgia Mountain Coaster, the sole alpine coaster in the state. Feel the wind rush through your hair as you zoom through the scenic woods.

Nora Mill Granary Grist Mill & Country Store

Explore this genuine working grist mill located beside the Chattahoochee River to witness the process of grinding corn into grits. Nora Mill grinds corn daily, using either the original French burr stones powered by the Chattahoochee River or a more modern 'Meal Master' stone grinding system situated on the second floor.

Babyland General Hospital

Close to Helen in Cleveland, the Cabbage Patch Dolls brand was established by local Xavier Roberts. Today, you can visit the Babyland General Hospital, where these dolls are 'born.' It's a unique blend of a museum and a store, with free admission, and the walls adorned with photos of celebrities.
